How to Become a DEA Agent in San Antonio, Texas by Meeting Requirements

The city of San Antonio, Texas is the tenth-largest city in the United States, which makes it a huge target for drug smugglers, dealers and traffickers. Because of San Antonio’s location (near the Mexico border and in the center of the state of Texas) it is a prime location for criminals looking to bring drugs into the city, and for traffickers looking to transport drugs to other locations across the country where drugs are in demand. The San Antonio division of the Drug Enforcement Agency is responsible for stopping drug trafficking and dealing in the area and is under the control of the larger DEA office in Houston.

The largest drug problems in the city of San Antonio are marijuana, prescription drugs and crack cocaine, but there has been an alarming rise in heroin use in the city as well. Most of the drugs are trafficked into the area through the Mexico border by the various Mexican drug cartels that pretty much own all of the major drug corridors in the state.

The following is a list of some of the most recent drug busts conducted by the DEA in the city of San Antonio, Texas:

  • October 2012: The San Antonio DEA arrested two suspects in connection with a black tar heroin drug bust. The arrest was made near the popular drug trafficking corridor where Interstate-10 and Interstate-37 intersect. There was so much heroin located in the suspects’ home that police officers were not able to confirm the amount on the scene.
  • May 2012: After 3 years of investigation, the DEA destroyed a drug operation in the city. During the bust, DEA agents seized $8 million worth of cocaine, $2 million in cash and $4 million in assets related to the selling of the drugs.
