Competitive candidates must meet the educational qualifications. Candidates are recruited who have at least a Bachelor’s degree with a grade point average of 2.95, a Master’s degree, or a LL.B. or J.D. degree.

For bachelor’s degree holders without a 2.95 GPA, experience in computer science, engineering, accounting, finance, linguists, among other areas can be used to qualify for DEA Academy training. The languages accepted are Spanish, French, Russian, Chinese, Farsi, Mandarin, Arabic, and others.

Those with closely related, extensive law enforcement experience need not have a degree to qualify for formal training.
